"What started out as a basic studio for me to work on my own songs, has evolved into a pretty good digital recording facility," Michael Kearns says. "I now record to hard disk and have a main room and isolation booths for drums and vocals. But it all comes down to a few things: trust your ears, never stop learning, make your artist comfortable and honor the song. "
Many people would say that in the last decade the commercial so-called country music coming out of Nashville has become more and more formulaic. Meanwhile the real artistic action has shifted to the independent music scene in "the other Nashville", a vibrant community of maverick songwriters who are producing work of substance and grit in a variety of styles and releasing great CD's on indie labels.
Kearns considers himself privileged to have been able to work as an engineer and producer with some of the finest of these singer-songwriters, including Stephen Hunter, Rand Morgan, Rachel Owen, Gordon Vincent, and Davis Raines & the Faders, who recorded their CD, "Get Up On This", semi-live at Bon Accord Sound.
